How does it work?

Dermabrasion is usually performed on an outpatient basis, that is, without the need for hospital admission and under local anesthesia and sedation. Its duration will depend on the area to be treated and can vary between approximately 10 minutes and an hour.

What to do after the treatment?
After surgery, the skin will remain swollen and red, with difficulty speaking and eating during the first few days. For men, it is very important to avoid shaving with a razor at first, using an electric razor. Any activity that could cause physical aggression in the treated area should be avoided for at least 2 weeks. Must be avoid exposure to sunlight (even weak), wind and chlorinated water for at least 4 weeks. Exposure to intense sun should be avoided for 1 year or more (until facial pigmentation is normal).
Dermabrasion is a safe technique, as long as it is performed by a qualified plastic surgeon. However, as with any operation, there may always be complications and risks associated such as infections, abnormal healing or drug intolerance, among others. The most common risk is a change in skin pigmentation. It may present in some patients as a darkening of the skin, generally caused by sun exposure in the days or months following surgery.
